When the Waves Have Come and Gone - an epic site-specific performance honoring the lives of refugees lost at sea performed by over 50 local dancers from diverse backgrounds at the Plage des Catalans in Marseille, France.

Created by Samar Haddad King (Artistic Director, Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre) as part of The Walk, an international festival in support of refugees, When the Waves Have Come and Gone is produced by Corinne Weber and Claire Bejanin, with music composed and performed by Kinan Azmeh. Bringing together professional and amateur artists from adolescents to seniors, the work unites classical, contemporary, African, urban and other dance disciplines through movement, theater, improvisation and puppetry, to explore the humanity and individuality of the refugee experience.

Participating groups include AfroVibe, Association Coline, Collectif B, Collectif Skalen, Ekoélé, RIFT x Refugee Migrants LGBTQI+ de Marseille, and Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre artists Yukari Osaka, Zoe Rabinowitz (Associate Artistic Director), Mohammed Smahneh, and Samaa Wakim.
